The annual Oktoberfest festival is celebrated world wide. The festival originated in Munich during the 1800’s. We love a good festival, however, we also enjoying brewing Oktoberfest Home Brew to enjoy at home. Traditionally, only Märzen and Festbier style beers are served at Oktoberfest. Furthermore, there are strict rules regarding who can brew ‘Oktoberfest beer’ and criteria to adhere to. Thankfully, Oktoberfest Home Brew does not fall under as much scrutiny.
Home Brewing German beer
Home brewers can join in the festivities of Oktoberfest and German culture by brewing a range of German style beers. One of our favourites is a Hefeweizen. Not traditionally served at Oktoberfest, however, a great German style beer. Hefeweizen is a wheat beer with a refreshing flavour, notes of banana and clove and a cloudy presentation.

Morgan’s Golden Sheaf Wheat Beer
Wheat Beer Yeast. Consider Mangrove Jack’s Bavarian Wheat or Safbrew WB-06.
Oktoberfest Home Brew
Mangrove Jack’s Bavarian Wheat is deliciously smooth, light and golden in colour. A full bodied beer with aromas of vanilla, banana & lingering clove aftertaste. Mangrove Jack’s Bavarian Wheat Yeast is responsible for imparting the banana and clove esters. Add a Mangrove Jack’s 1.2kg Pure Liquid Malt when brewing the Bavarian Wheat. This is a great German inspired brew.
Whether you are joining in on local Oktoberfest festivities or creating your own Oktoberfest inspired brew, we hope you have a great Oktoberfest!
